That’s why we partnered with Carbon Direct to bring to life a program to proactively address the carbon cost of travel to Cannes: ‘Cannes Carbon Compensation.’
Created in 2023 by Scope3, in partnership with Carbon Direct, the program helps to move the focus of the Cannes sustainability conversation from awareness and discussion, to measurement and action.
Available to Scope3 Partners, participants compensate for the carbon impact of their company’s travels to the festival via Scope3’s curated Carbon Removal Project Portfolio with Carbon Direct.

Not all carbon removal projects are created equal.
First, it starts with accurate measurement of how we traveled to Cannes. To quantify the carbon emissions attributed to our travel, Carbon Direct’s estimation model factored in origin, destination, and seat class. It used this information to estimate emissions from the US or UK to Cannes by air and from Paris or London to Cannes by rail. In alignment with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, aircraft type was not included in the estimate.
Then the total emissions needed to be compensated for through high-quality carbon removal projects. The specific carbon removal portfolio used for this program was designed to ensure lasting, real-world impact. Each project in our portfolio goes through Carbon Direct’s rigorous scientific review.
